Women's Group Explore Mindfulness

Yesterday, at our Women's Horizon Project group, our members had the opportunity to learn how they could practise mindfulness, and to hear the evidence that it could improve their mental well-being.
Mindfulness is short for “mindfulness mediation practice”. This is a form of self-awareness training, adapted from Buddhist mediation. Mindfulness is about being aware of what is happening in the present, moment by moment, without making judgments about what we notice.
Attendees discussed what they thought mindfulness was, and were asked to give an example of when they only focused on the present, rather than worrying about the past or future. They were then asked to meditate for 10 minutes, then to tell the rest of the group how that felt.
Members who attended were very positive about the workshop, and many said they would like a chance to take part in further sessions.
The Horizon Women’s Project takes place on Wednesdays between 1.30pm and 2.30pm. Next week, there will be an Introduction to Chair-based exercise.
