Castbox FM is the main source for our podcasts, the RSS feed for ‘INUFsaid’ (http://rss.castbox.fm/everest/26c34b2527a64eb7a96354af8af09542.xml) is shared to all of the other podcast hosts – you can also add this to your email host (i.e. Outlook) to receive the latest updates direct to your Inbox.
RSS, stands for “Really Simple Syndication”, and refers to XML (Extensible Markup Language) files, that are easily read by a computer, and that automatically update information. It is a type of web feed, which allows users to access updates to websites in a standardized, computer-readable format. These feeds can, for example, allow a user to keep track of many different websites in a single news aggregation. This information is fetched by a user's RSS feed reader, that converts the files into the latest updates from websites in an easy-to-read format.
So far, 24 podcasts have been produced and published, mainly about mental health matters, but also covering topics such as comic books, conspiracy theories, The Muller Enquiry, dealing with debt, and the difference between “Eastenders” on T.V. versus the East End in real life. Each programme starts with an introduction on how to contact INUF, and a description of one of our projects. This is followed by information on a theme, such as defining depression, living with a dual diagnosis, the impact of social media on mental health, and much, much more. With INUF members at the helm, the team aims to create four podcasts a month, so that we can publish a new one each fortnight - each one is currently lasting approximately 29 minutes. The programmes are presented by INUF Volunteers, Steven Coad and Michael Ahern; hosted by Volunteer Coordinator, Trevor Jones; Sound recorded by freelance filmmaker, Malachi Howe, and have been sound mixed by Sound Engineers, Giovanni Bastianello and Malachi Howe.
The main aim of the podcasts is for our members to have a voice on an independent platform, and for us to interview experts on topics relevant to mental health and general wellbeing. Our most recent interview was an international one via Skype (London to California), with Jim Leftwich. Jim is a man who has set up an online dating website for people with mental health issues, called No Longer Lonely.
“This is a great opportunity to get INUF members, their voices and opinions onto online digital media, and to create content focused on mental health matters, that everyone should be talking about,” said Trevor Jones, INUF Volunteer Coordinator.
